Are You Flexible?

A lot of my blog posts have to do with fitness so your first thought when reading the title may be of yoga or gymnastics.

But in this case, I’m talking about goals and what we do to reach them.

I was listening to the audiobook “The Touchstone Tools: Building Your Way To An Inspired Life” by Joseph Holland this afternoon. In one chapter he talks about mapping out your goals. A lot of us are already familiar with the phrase “When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” but there is more to it then that.

A lot of us deal with frustration when we have a plan in our heads and things don’t go the way we planned. Sometimes it causes us to throw up our hands and quit. But we need to learn to be flexible.

I was watching the news this morning and they were covering the story of the New Jersey Turnpike/PA Turnpike connector bridge. A couple days ago they found a crack in the structure and the bridge is closed until further notice. 42,000 cars go over that bridge each day (average) and I couldn’t help but think if everyone who had planned on taking that bridge to work just quit their jobs. I mean, they couldn’t get to their destination the way they had planned, right? Instead, most people found an alternate way to reach their goal.

It’s the same with our goals. There will be times in our journey to our goals where our plans will need to be changed. We need to be flexible and find a way around the obstacles. Don’t give up on your goals! Be flexible and reach for the stars!
